THE PAINTERS:

KOSTIS MOUDATSOS
Athens based artist Kostis Moudatsos was born in Crete and his early memories of an artistic history of exceptional richness is reflected to this day in his work. Through his paintings, Kostis conveys a very personal view, very questioning but with a sense of irony and an element of humour. No arrogance here, no provocation, but painting with soul. No decorative flattering, but a genuine technical expertise for his art. Kostis develops a very personal way of visualising every single picture. Many of his recent works are made up with ‘tiles’, each of them reminding us that modern pictures are composed of pixels, just like his ‘tiles’. He is an artist who strongly imposes himself in the present. His works are an archaeology of present times, without overlooking the past. A dedicated artist, Kostis regularly exhibits in Greece and abroad, with an exhibition planned in Poland later this year. Last year, his exhibition at the Saint Mark’s Basilica in Heraklion was an outstanding success, with sales of his paintings exceeding even his modest expectations. Kostis will show a small selection of his paintings for NOW! in the lobby of ‘First Floor Underground’ and will be present to discuss his work.

BARBARA DALING
Barbara Daling was born in Dortmund, Germany. She graduated as a designer at the Muenster Professional School of Graphic Design and then worked as a freelance designer, book illustrator and painter.
Since 1977, multitalented Barbara has exhibited in Germany and abroad (Dortmund, Muenster, Muenchen, Hamburg, Berlin, Heraklion, Sankt Moritz, Zuerich, Bologna, Paris, Tokyo). Many of her paintings are inspired by the orient and Crete. Barbara uses the basic symbols of the Minoan Civilisation as well as from even older cultures, which are conveyed in her highly inspirational work. Her paintings transmit emotion and spirituality, her iconic language represents a facet of human emotion as she presents us with painted mythological creatures and scenes from the subconscious mind. She expresses herself with a gamma of beautiful colours in a simple but technically perfect way. Barbara lives in a small mountain village in Crete and also spends some of her time in both Germany and America. Barbara will show a small selection of her paintings for NOW! in the lobby of ‘First Floor Underground’ and will be present to discuss her work.
